More Wisconsinites picking Healthcare.gov plans than last year

Wisconsinites are continuing to pick Healthcare.gov plans at a
higher pace than last year, and 20 percent of them are new customers,
according to a new report from the feds.

The report from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows
234,181 people in Wisconsin selected a plan by Dec. 24, up from under
220,000 at a similar point the previous year.

The feds say the figures, which also reflect increased enrollment
nationally, show Americans “continue to rely on the marketplace to
access affordable, quality coverage.”

“Growing demand for Marketplace coverage refutes predictions that 2017
premiums changes would lead to sharp declines in enrollment and a
so-called ‘death spiral,’” CMS said in a news release.

Nearly 46,000 of the people who’ve picked a plan are new enrollees,
while 188,233 are re-enrollees from last year, the report shows.
