APPLETON, Wis. (July 14, 2017) – The Fox Cities Chamber, in partnership with the Fox West Chamber of Commerce and Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, will host a special breakfast event with U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Bruce Gillingham in honor of Navy Week in the Fox Cities, on Tuesday, July 25 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Pullman’s at Trolley Square.
Rear Admiral Gillingham’s presentation will focus on the importance of the U.S. Navy’s global activities, as well as provide insights into the Navy’s medical field, and his current role as Deputy Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Readiness & Health. He will also discuss how Americans are impacted by the Navy in their everyday life.
Rear Admiral Gillingham is a native of San Diego and holds a doctor of medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Among his various positions throughout Navy medicine, he has served as director of Pediatric Orthopedic and Scoliosis Surgery, Associate Orthopedic Residency Program director and director of Surgical Services. His personal awards include five Legion of Merit awards; Meritorious Service Medal; two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal with the Eagle Globe; Anchor device with bronze star; and the Fleet Marine Force ribbon.
The Department of the Navy (DON) “Navy Weeks,” coordinated by the Navy Office of Community Outreach, are designed to give attendees the opportunity to learn about the DON, its people, and its importance to national security and prosperity. This year’s “Fox Cities Navy Week” will feature this special breakfast event on Tuesday and a small business workshop on Thursday.
