UW-Madison rises in World University Rankings
The University of Wisconsin-Madison has risen from 50th last year to 45th this year in Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. In the United States, UW-Madison ranked 23rd this year and 26th last year out of 148 institutions.
Now in its 13th year, Times Higher Ed ranks 980 institutions, drawing on 150 separate data points on each of 1,313 of the world’s leading research universities. It judges research-intensive universities in five categories: teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research) and industry income (knowledge transfer).
For this most recent ranking, UW-Madison’s citation and research scores increased, reflecting both strong scholarly productivity and an increase in research being properly attributed to UW-Madison. The citation score went from 86.6 to 87.9 (out of a possible 100) with its research score rising from 68.2 to 71.4.
