The Parent Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is presenting its first annual Sibs Day this Saturday, April 9, on the UW-Madison campus. 112 siblings (pre-registered only) will experience a day in the life of a Badger alongside 88 current students with a full day of programming and activities.

Sibs Day is targeted at siblings 8 to 17 years old, but anyone was welcome to register and participate. For this event, “siblings” can be brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, or family friends.

Patti Lux-Weber, assistant director of parent relations and special events for Campus and Visitor Relations, is available for comment at 608-262-7936 (office), 608-334-0865 (day of event) or patti.lux-weber@wisc.edu.

“When students go off to college, it is a transition for the whole family,” says Lux-Weber. “The Parent Program regularly connects with parents, but what about the siblings at home? How are they feeling? What questions do they have? Sibs Day was created to give these siblings a snapshot of a day in the life of their college student. This event will encourage siblings to think about attending college, see what campus life is like, and have some one-on-one bonding time with their college student.”

Events include:

•Finding Buckingham U. Badger photo scavenger hunt (10:30 a.m.-noon)

•Lunch and photo shoot with Bucky (12:15-1:30 p.m., second floor of Union South)

•Badger Experience Sessions: engaging talks with UW-Madison professors and hands-on activities with UW-Madison student organizations (1:45-3:30 p.m., two sessions in various locations)

•Dinner and evening entertainment, including student a cappella group Pitches and Notes and the UW Band (5:15-6:30 p.m., Mendota Room, Dejope Residence Hall)
