December 17, 2015 – Milwaukee, WI – The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty announced today that Mario Loyola has joined WILL as Senior Fellow, focusing his research and outreach on constitutional law and federalism.

Mr. Loyola began his career in corporate law and since 2003 has divided his time between government service and research and writing at prominent policy institutes. He served in the Pentagon as a special assistant to the undersecretary of defense for policy, and on Capitol Hill as counsel for foreign and defense affairs to the U.S. Senate Republican Policy Committee, and a senior advisor for Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska. Loyola is a contributing editor at National Review and a senior fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, where he was director of federalism and constitutional studies.

WILL President and General Counsel Rick Esenberg noted, “We are pleased to have Mario join WILL as we continue to grow in size, scope, and influence. His expertise and experience adds another dimension to the policy and legal work we do. WILL has grown four-fold in as many years and with the addition of Mario, we can continue to expand our original research and legal work capacity. We will also be announcing new projects after the first of the year.”

WILL Senior Fellow Mario Loyola continued, “With Americans’ trust in government today near the lowest its ever been, the creeping federal takeover of state governments gives added importance to policy issues large and small. I’m excited to keep exploring these issues at WILL, and help Wisconsin and WILL impact the larger policy debates that are – or should be – occurring in the state capitols and Washington. I’m honored to have a chance to contribute to WILL’s reputation as a first-rate, high-impact law center.”

Mr. Loyola has been widely published in nationally recognized outlets such as National Review, American Spectator, Atlantic Monthly, The Weekly Standard, and The Wall Street Journal.

He received a B.A. in European history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. from Washington University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in New York State, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
