More than 80 farmers participated in the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Services event held on the Standard Process Farm
PALMYRA, Wis. (September 16, 2015)—More than 80 farmers took part in the MOSES Organic Field Day event held September 10 on the Standard Process Farm in Palmyra, Wisconsin. The event, hosted by the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Service (MOSES), gave farmers a chance to learn about the use of cover crops on one of the most diverse organic vegetable farms in Wisconsin.
“Standard Process is proud to have been selected by MOSES as the host farm for this event because it allows us to show that cover crops help make it possible for a farm to be bountiful and sustainable at the same time,” said Christine Mason, Standard Process farm manager. “We enjoy sharing our field crops as well as our whole food vision with our farming peers.”
Mason served as field educator for the afternoon, showing how Standard Process Inc. uses cover crops on its 420 acres of certified organic farmland. In adherence with strict organic guidelines, Standard Process does not use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides in its growing process.
During her presentation, Mason explained the benefits cover crops provide the farm, as well as how Standard Process turns its biodegradable production waste from the farm’s press room into rich and fertile compost that helps improve the health and vitality of the soil.
