MADISON BUSINESSES RALLY TO SUPPORT $150,000 DESIGN MAKEOVER FOR LOCAL NONPROFIT CENTER FOR FAMILIES
Local business, FLOOR360, Spearheads Design for a Difference Initiative

Madison, WI – September 24, 2015: Community spirit is alive and well in Madison, as a range of local businesses join local sponsor FLOOR360 in supporting this year’s Design for a Difference beneficiary, Center for Families, a non-profit organization that offers instruction, support, emergency child care, in-home visits and valuable resources that parents need to meet the challenges of parenting. Center for Families aspires to create a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all families. To date, FLOOR360 received over $140,000 in good and services to execute the design makeover for Center for Families.

Lead by a team of Madison area designers including Angela Skalitzky, Dani Frank, Caren King, Katie Merical, and Michelle Schildgen, a complete transformation of the facility will occur in a one week timeframe. The makeover includes the addition of an extra bedroom as well as new kitchen space, new flooring, furniture, play areas, media center and fun, decorative yet practical accessories. The goal is to create a more welcoming and fun environment for the families to help the children feel at ease when they come to the Center; especially in stressful situations. In addition, the new space will be outfitted with Murphy beds and a breakroom to provide employees and volunteers with more comfortable resting places.

Meg Miller, Interim Executive Director and Respite Center Manager, comments on the makeover, “Families in need often have to settle for what’s good enough and so do the agencies that help these families. Being chosen as the charity makeover for Design for a Difference and the amazing outpouring of community support is overwhelming and illustrates how the greater Dane County community believes that vulnerable children and their parents are worth the investment.”

She adds, “the newly designed space will increase our capacity by adding a bedroom and the overall design will provide a more welcoming yet functional environment for us to service our clients.”

The makeover will begin on October 3rd. There will be an Open House for the public to attend on Sunday, November 15th from 2-6pm. National celebrity designer and spokesperson for Design for a Difference, Mark Brunetz, will be on hand at the reveal event and available for an interview.

Design for a Difference as a movement provides an incredible platform for local businesses and designers to collaborate and truly have a positive impact in the communities where we live,” said Bob Tobe of FLOOR360. “The large number of companies and designers working together is amazing .And we look forward to creating a magnificent space for the Center for Families and the children and their families to enjoy.”

Stepping up to join FLOOR360 in fulfilling the makeover are local businesses: Bella Domicile (donating a full new kitchen), Dybdahl Design Group (designing a dramatic play area ), Play N Wisconsin (custom play structure), California Closets (organization systems and cabinets), Rubin’s Contemporary Furniture and A-1 Furniture (furniture and bedding), Jaeckle Distributors (new flooring) and Grand Appliance and TV (appliances).

A special thank you to sponsors NBC15 and BRAVA magazine.

Design for a Difference is the only community-driven designer movement sponsored by International Design Guild, a co-op of home décor showrooms specializing in high-end floor coverings. Design for a Difference allows socially conscious showrooms to work with interior designers to makeover much needed spaces at local charities.

As national spokesperson, Mark Brunetz explains, “All too often charity spaces suffer from neglect because the majority of monies they raise are put towards providing services to their causes, leaving little for aesthetics that can have a powerful impact on the human spirit. Design for a Difference in not only transforming spaces, but also it is also transforming lives.”
