Cypress Benefit Administrators’ Tom Doney Named Chairman of

National SPBA Board of Directors

APPLETON, WI (Feb. 19, 2015)—Tom Doney, president and CEO of Cypress Benefit Administrators, has been named chairman of the national board of directors for the Society of Professional Benefit Administrators (SPBA) for the 2015 calendar year. Based in Chevy Chase, MD, the SPBA specializes in helping Third Party Administrators (TPAs) by focusing on the real-world effects of regulatory requirements and interpretations to achieve the most cost-effective outcomes for the employers served by TPAs.

Cypress is a leading third party health benefit administrator headquartered in Appleton, Wis., with clients in all 50 states. Doney, along with co-founder Marsha Phillips, established Cypress in 2000 in Appleton, Wis. It now has additional locations in Portland and Salem, Ore., Omaha, Neb. and Denver, Col.

“The SPBA is the visionary organization for TPAs and I am honored to be named chairman of its board of directors and to formally take on this top leadership role along with the responsibility of guiding SPBA’s mission of achieving excellence in health care cost containment,” Doney said.

Under Doney’s leadership, Cypress has been leading the way toward cost containment in health care as the country’s first TPA to bring claims administration, consumer-driven health plans and proven cost management measures together in one package for employers.

The company has experienced ongoing growth and success, sharing figures that show its employer-clients experienced average annual increases of just 1.93 % on medical plan costs over the past seven years compared to the 7.14 % increase reported nationally.

In addition to Doney’s new SPBA chairman appointment, Cypress was named a Business of the Year by the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 2013 and also named to Inc. magazine’s 500|5000 list as a Top 100 Insurance Company for growth in the U.S.

“We are excited about our strong niche in the marketplace, our continued steady pace of company growth, and now, an even closer affiliation with SPBA,” Doney said.
