MILWAUKEE- July is one of the most popular months for people to move. Although moving to a new area can be stressful and chaotic, it may also provide consumers the opportunity to gain some peace of mind by accessing health insurance coverage.

Though the Health Insurance Marketplace’s Open Enrollment period closed in February, there are a number of special qualifying life events that allow people a chance to enroll or change their coverage throughout the year – and changing zip codes is one of them.

“Consumers who switch jobs and cities of residence may no longer have the same health insurance options as they did back home. Since a change in zip code is considered a qualifying life event, movers will have 60 days to apply for new coverage,” says licensed Navigator Caroline Gomez-Tom.

“Sixty days still provides plenty of time to unpack, arrange the furniture and enroll your family in health insurance coverage!”

Consumers can apply online for health insurance coverage at, call the Health Insurance Marketplace 1-800-318-2596, or contact a local Navigator or enrollment assister to talk through their options face-to-face.
