Transitions to all Wisconsin-based cheeses; Partners with Sprecher Brewing Company

MILWAUKEE (Nov. 11, 2015) – Cousins Subs®, a Wisconsin-based company and iconic Milwaukee brand, celebrates its Midwest heritage by transitioning to all Wisconsin-based cheeses and partnering with Sprecher Brewing Company.

Through a partnership with the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, as of October 2015, all Cousins Subs locations now exclusively serve the following Wisconsin cheeses as part of its ingredient options: provolone, cheddar, Swiss, parmesan asiago and sharp American. The Wisconsin-based cheese lineup will join Cousins other locally-sourced food products including Wisconsin Cheese Curds. In addition, Cousins has expanded its already three-year partnership with Wisconsin-based Sprecher Brewing Company to transition to solely offering Sprecher Root Beer as the root beer of choice at all locations.

“Since 1972, Cousins Subs has prided itself on its Wisconsin-based roots and quality ingredients,” said Justin McCoy, vice president of marketing at Cousins Subs. “We felt it was only natural to pair up with the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Sprecher Brewing Company to bring our guests local products that not only speak to Midwest heritage, but that are a great representation of the high quality, signature products of Wisconsin.”

Known as ‘America’s Dairyland,’ Wisconsin has been producing quality cheese for more than 160 years and is the leader in cheesemaking across the United States, generating as much as 25 percent of the nation’s cheese supply. The state’s 1,200 cheesemakers produce more than 600 varieties under the highest standards for safety, grading and quality.

“Cousins Subs has built its brand on ‘Better Bread, Better Subs,’ and now, better cheese. By making the switch to exclusively offer Wisconsin cheese on all sandwiches, as well as fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds, Cousins has tapped into brand equity that is unparalleled in the dairy industry,” said Allen Hendricks, vice president of foodservice and education for Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. “Customers know to expect superior flavor and quality from cheese made in ‘America’s Dairyland.’ For a company that got its start in Milwaukee, it’s especially fitting that Wisconsin cheese be served in all Cousins Subs locations.”

Established in 1985 as Milwaukee’s Original Microbrewer, Sprecher brews more than 20 different beer varieties as well as nine year-round and four seasonal sodas, including its world famous Sprecher Root Beer.

“We are very excited to be partnering with Cousins Subs to bring our root beer to all of their locations. This partnership brings two great Milwaukee-based companies together and offers Cousins’ customers the opportunity to experience the best of Wisconsin,” said Jeff Hamilton, president of Sprecher Brewing Company. “Cousins has long been known for their quality breads and ingredients, and now is taking a lead role in their industry by offering craft beverage choices.”
