Participants Raise Critically Needed Funds for Alzheimer’s Care,
Support and Research
Madison, WI, – The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Dane
County area residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions
by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. Walk to
End Alzheimer’s will take place on Sunday, October 11 at James Madison
Memorial High School on Madison’s west side.
Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for over 1,000
participants in Dane County who will learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to
get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical
studies enrollment to support programs and services. Walk participants also
honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with the poignant Promise Garden
ceremony.
“There has never been a greater need for Dane County area residents to join us
in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” said Lauren Watkins, Special Events
Coordinator of the South Central Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer’s
Association. “In the state of Wisconsin alone, 110,000 people are currently living
with Alzheimer’s, which is 12% of seniors. Funds raised will provide free care and
support to Dane County residents while also contributing to research.
In addition to the 2 mile walk, participants will enjoy a new atmosphere this year.
In addition to a new location, the 2015 event invites participants to, “Fall in Love
with Walk to End Alzheimer’s.” A hay maze, pumpkin patch honoring our loved
ones, live music and a special tribute to those who have experienced or are
experiencing Alzheimer’s will be enjoyed by all. A shorter course for those with
mobility issues will also be available.
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause
of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s
disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s more than 5 million
Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.
