WEDC planning August trade trip to southeast Asia

WEDC is taking applications from businesses to attend a “global trade venture” to southeast Asia from Aug. 11 to Aug. 22.

The trip — aimed at boosting state exports and helping businesses reach emerging markets — will be to Singapore and Indonesia, two countries that WEDC said “provide tremendous growth opportunities for Wisconsin businesses.”

Businesses will get country briefings and participate in meetings with “potential customers, agents, distributors and other market intermediaries in both countries.”

The program costs $3,000 per person for Wisconsin businesses that export; other groups like agencies and associations will pay $8,000 per person. The applications deadline is July 1.

Gov. Scott Walker has traveled on some WEDC trade missions, including one to China, but will not be part of this trip, an agency spokesman said.
