SECOND HARVEST FOODBANK RECEIVES 9TH CONSECUTIVE FOUR-STAR RATING FROM CHARITY NAVIGATOR

MADISON, Wisc.—August 11, 2014—Charity Navigator, America’s premier evaluator of nonprofit organizations has given Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin a 4-star rating – its highest possible rating – for the ninth consecutive year. The rating represents the fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency of the nonprofit.

“We work very hard to build and maintain the trust our donors have placed in us to use their gifts in a responsible way in meeting our goal of ending hunger in southwestern Wisconsin,” says Dan Stein, Second Harvest President & CEO. “It is an honor to have a widely respected independent organization like Charity Navigator recognize our efforts toward fiscal responsibility and providing measurable results.”

As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their gifts. Charity Navigator highlights the work of efficient, ethical and open charities. Their goal is to provide donors with essential information needed to give them greater confidence in the charitable choices they make.

“Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that (Second Harvest) adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way,” says Ken Berger, President & CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only 1% of the charities we rate have received at least 9 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin outperforms most other charities in America.”
