The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin Introduces the LinkWISCONSIN Bandwidth Assessment Tool

[Madison, Wis.] – Today, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin announces the launch of the LinkWISCONSIN Bandwidth Assessment Tool (BAT).

By completing a simple assessment, the BAT provides residents and businesses with a report estimating how much bandwidth is required for doing the daily necessities they want or need to do online.

“Wisconsin residents and businesses have an increasing demand for broadband. This is fueled by the realized benefits of information, communication, and commerce over the Internet, said Public Service of Wisconsin Chairperson Phil Montgomery. “However, consumers currently do not have the necessary tools to help them determine their broadband needs, and as a result there exist pockets of unmet demand around the State, the Bandwidth Assessment Tool is one step in the process to meet Wisconsin’s broadband needs.”

Furthermore, the BAT also informs Internet Service Providers where they can find new customers that have connectivity needs that may be going unmet.

The BAT is essentially a virtual market place tool providing consumers with an option to receive a comprehensive list broadband providers, including contact information, that serve their specific location. It also provides consumers with an option to request that providers contact them with a service offering that meets their assessed needs. Each resident or business taking the survey will also better inform the state where to direct funding to deploy and enhance broadband services.
