Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau receives Community Partner Award

City honors bureau’s promotion of Oshkosh as “Wisconsin’s Event City”

OSHKOSH, Wis. (April 3, 2014) – The Oshkosh Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCVB), the official destination marketing organization of Oshkosh and Winnebago County, was recognized with a Community Partner Award from the City of Oshkosh.

Oshkosh City Manager Mark Rohloff announced the recognition at the annual State of the City address at the Oshkosh Convention Center on Monday, March 31.

The award recognizes the OCVB’s promotion of Oshkosh as “Wisconsin’s Event City,” the growing economic impact of tourism in Oshkosh, and the three-year period in which the OCVB managed the Oshkosh Convention Center prior to the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel taking control of operations in 2013.

“Tourism wouldn’t be successful without great partnerships,” said Wendy Hielsberg, executive director of the OCVB. “From the attractions and accommodations to the city staff and event organizers, our success depends on great collaboration. We have that in Oshkosh, and it’s wonderful to be recognized as a leader and catalyst for positive change in our community.”

Other honorees included the Oshkosh Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel and the Friends of the Oshkosh Public Library.

Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Event City, welcomes more than 1 million visitors each year thanks in part to hosting more than 1,000 events annually. In 2012, Winnebago County ranked 12th out of 72 counties in Wisconsin for visitor spending. Tourism generated $207.5 million for the local economy and supported more than 4,600 full-time jobs.

Information on the economic impact of tourism in Oshkosh and Winnebago County from 2013 will be released during National Travel and Tourism Week, May 3-11, 2014.
