WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 27, 2014) – Kevin M. Barner and William E. (Bill) Bradley have joined the Washington D.C. office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as partners in the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Area. Each join Michael Best from Roylance, Abrams, Berdo & Goodman, LLP, a boutique intellectual property firm in Washington D.C.
Barner brings significant technical and legal skills and experience gained from more than ten years of industry experience as an engineer followed by more than 16 years assisting clients with patent procurement and litigation matters related to a range of technologies. In addition to preparing and prosecuting patents in a myriad of technology areas, he has extensive experience in preparing legal opinions and counseling clients on patenting strategies. The areas in which Barner has considerable technical experience and knowledge include telecommunication devices, semiconductor device design and fabrication, digital processing and controls, software, LED lighting, photovoltaics, nanotechnology and other electrical and mechanical arts.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Barner practiced for 17 years with three different intellectual property boutique law firms in Washington, D.C. Before entering the legal profession Mr. Barner had a lengthy technical career at Northrop Grumman (formerly Westinghouse Electric Corp.), where he was a senior hardware design engineer. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Maryland State Bar Association and is licensed to practice in several courts and before the USPTO.
Barner earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1998 and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore School of Business in 1993. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1987.
Bradley is a highly skilled intellectual property litigator who has been involved in more than 50 district court actions. He is also an accomplished patent prosecutor in mechanical, electro-mechanical, chemical, biomedical and business method art areas having drafted and prosecuted patents for several Fortune 50 clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Bradley spent more than 15 years with other law firms focusing on intellectual property. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association
Bradley earned his Juris Doctor from George Mason Law School with high honors in 1998 and graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1991.
