Gov. Walker: Signs bipartisan legislation streamlining utility regulations

Madison – Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 595 today at the Wisconsin Electric Cooperatives Association’s legislative day in Madison.

“This legislation I am signing today streamlines regulations at PSC to focus resources on the things that most matter to ratepayers. It also updates statutory language to reflect current business practices,” Governor Walker said. “I thank Senator Rob Cowles (R- Green Bay) and Representative Mike Kuglitsch (R-New Berlin) for their work on this bill.”

Assembly Bill 595 – updates and reforms regulatory processes at the Public Service Commission (PSC) to cut costs, delays, and uncertainty in the Commission’s review of utility rate cases and construction applications. The bill focuses resources at the PSC on areas of most importance to ratepayers. Additionally, statutory language relating to line tampering, payphone providers, and existing cable television providers is either updated or clarified. The bill passed both the Senate and Assembly on a voice vote and is Act 125.
