Urges employers with job openings and job seekers to register for Oct. 9 event at Shopko Hall
MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Reggie Newson today urged job seekers and employers with job openings to register for the 2014 Bay Area Career Expo, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. October 9 at Shopko Hall in Green Bay.
“Career expos have proven popular with job seekers and employers alike in the Bay Area, and so I am pleased to announce we are returning to Green Bay’s Shopko Hall October 9 for our third annual Bay Area Career Expo,” Secretary Newson said. “Expos take recruiting to a new level, with DWD and its workforce partners taking additional steps to help employers find the skilled workers they need, and to help job seekers find the job they want. Employers with jobs to fill and job seekers ready to work should act now and register.”
Secretary Newson said that job seekers need to register in advance. By requiring job seekers to register in advance, DWD and its workforce partners can review their resume and help them prepare to meet employers. In addition, participating employers must demonstrate they have job openings to fill, he said.
“Career expos offer an excellent recruiting opportunity and are a win-win for job seekers and employers,” Secretary Newson said. He noted the first Bay Area Career Expo in 2012 and the second expo event last fall each drew more than 100 employers and over 1,300 job seekers.

Interested job seekers are urged to pre-register. To do so, they must complete a simple registration process:
1. Visit www.JobCenterofWisconsin.com, and register or update your information;
2. Use the Job Seeker Tools on the site to create or update a resume and complete a self-assessment survey (be sure to print copies for the final step); and
3. Complete a work readiness session with an employment specialist at a local Job Center to review the resume and self-assessment survey, review steps in the job application process, and receive an admission ticket. Work readiness sessions are available during regular Job Center hours now through Thursday, October 9.
