Madison, WI— If you have ever wanted to learn how to water ski but have never had the chance, this year’s Clean Lakes Festival is the perfect opportunity. The best part is that your instructors are National Champion Mad-City skiers and know how to have a lot of fun! The hour-long waterskiing clinics run from 9am-noon on the half-hour at the Law Park Boat Launch. The Mad-City Ski Team makes skiing look easy, and these pros will make lessons fun and comfortable. Ski team members range in age from tots to grandparents, and all ages and ski levels are welcome and invited to participate. The lessons cost $50 with equipment included.
Not only does the Mad-City Water Ski Team know how to have fun, they also know how much the lakes matter to our community. In 2007, the ski team came up with a bright idea to reengage residents about the importance of our lakes. The team started the first Clean Lakes Festival to raise money and awareness for improved lake water quality after seeing first-hand the threats to water quality that algae bring.
Now, the 8th annual Clean Lakes Festival is only a week away –-and what progress the community has made since then! The Clean Lakes Alliance, the local non-profit devoted to protecting and improving water quality in the Madison-area lakes, grew out of the Clean Lakes Festival. The CLA and its partners in business, science and government, has put together a strategic action plan for reducing algae-causing phosphorus from entering our lakes. With all of the collaboration from government workers to university staff to non-profits, and the momentum that has been built behind this plan, our chance to see cleaner lakes is greater than ever.
So after you give it your all on a pair of waterskis, dry off and enjoy all the Festival has to offer: the live music on a floating stage, kids’ activities and crafts, learning exhibits, food, beer and more!
The Clean Lakes Festival will be held at Law Park near Monona Terrace, along Lake Monona, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m on Saturday, July 26th 2014. For more information on the event, please visit: www.cleanlakesfestival.com
