New Pool, Pool House and Practice Facility to Open This Summer

Appleton, Wis. (February 20, 2014) – Appleton’s Butte des Morts Country Club, which celebrates its 90th anniversary later this year, has announced a three-year, $3 million-plus facilities upgrade highlighted by a new pool and pool house and a state-of-the-art practice area to be completed by this summer.
The upgrade is being driven by a mix of club resources, including a capital campaign and a membership drive. A committee of members and staff is overseeing and coordinating the project.

The project at the private golf and social club located along Highway 41 on Appleton’s southwest side, encompasses the following:

– New pool and pool house to replace the more-than-50-year-old pool which was at the end of its life cycle. The new water amenity features a practical pool design with a zero-entry children’s pool as well as an open-air, covered restaurant and bar area for family and social events. A new tennis court will be located adjacent to the pool.

– State-of-the-art golf practice facility featuring: 3,200 sq. ft. of bent grass putting green; greenside practice bunker; fairway practice bunker; 9,500 sq. ft. of bent grass fairway with chipping area; and 9,000 sq. ft. of blue grass fairway with chipping area

– Golf course improvements, with a focus on the club’s 45-year-old irrigation system. The new system will significantly improve playability throughout the picturesque 18-hole, 142-acre course and offer more flexible watering capabilities

– Clubhouse improvements will improve the locker rooms and pro shop

– A new parking lot with an additional 55 parking spots will also result from the upgrade

“We developed these plans based on a survey of our membership, which helped us determine priorities,” said Dave Bernard, Butte des Morts board president. “There was overwhelming support for a new pool as well as the other aspects of our project.”

Work began in the fall and will continue until the opening of golf season in 2016, Bernard said. The pool, pool house, practice area and expanded parking will open this summer as the first projects to be completed.

This latest upgrade comes on the heels of a thorough interior updating of the Clubhouse’s dining, banquet and meeting rooms that occurred over the previous 18 months.

“We are already known as a family-friendly club, but this will move us to a whole new level,” said Matt Michael, Butte des Morts club manager. “The focus for our club is on the golf, social and recreational experiences of our members and their families, so the improvements will provide a level of experience unmatched here in the Fox Cities.”
