JANESVILLE, WI – The Blackhawk Technical College chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is one of 21 national chapters awarded the organization’s Outstanding Merit Award, SHRM recently announced.

Five students will represent the BTC chapter when it is honored June 21 in Orlando, Fla., at SHRM’s national conference. Those students are Angela Scott, Steve Stenulson, Corissa Palfrey, Wayne Boardman and Michelle Lomax. Their trips to Orlando are being paid in part by donations from the local SHRM chapter, the Blackhawk Human Resource Association and the BTC Foundation.

Chapters were eligible to earn an award based on the number of recruitment, programming, education innovations or community service activities completed between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.

“Our ultimate goal this year was to help our community with every day issues that arise,’’ the BTC chapter said in a statement issued upon notice of the award. “Our chapter provided direct service and support to individuals such as students, BTC staff members, homeless and less fortunate families, and special need high school students.’’

SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 275,000 professional and 19,000 student members in over 140 countries, the association serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession.

“We are proud to have so many Outstanding Student Chapter awards this year. The programs and events these student members have participated in are truly exceptional,” said Laurie McIntosh, director of member engagement. “They are all helping to shape the future of the HR profession through community service, technology, advocacy or another area.”
