Five new summer courses to be offered at Monroe Campus
JANESVILLE, WI – The Monroe Campus of Blackhawk Technical College will offer five new computer skills classes this summer, courses aimed to not only enhance personal computer skills but professional skills, as well.
The courses were designed based on feedback from BTC students who had completed previous computer skills courses. Three of the courses will be taught in two sessions while the other two are one session courses. None of the five classes conflict with each other so interested students may take as many of the five courses they should choose.
Each course will be held in a state of the art computer lab on the Monroe Campus. Registration begins April 22. Classes are limited to 21 students. You may register at www.blackhawk.edu or in person at the campus, 210 Fourth Ave., Monroe. The courses, with dates, times and costs as are:
CLIPART, SMARTART, AND BORDERS IN MS WORD
Know how to use MS Word but want to go over some of the “finer” tools in this program? You’ll learn how to insert ClipArt, SmartArt, borders, headers, footers, hyperlinks, text boxes, and other easy functions that enhance documents. We will not spend time in this short class keying in documents; but, rather, we will be spending time on how to make them look better. Class time will be given to practice these functions in MS Word.

CREATING A PIVOT TABLE IN MS EXCEL
Sometimes data can be looked at quicker by using a Pivot Table in Excel. This one session class will go over the basics on “how to” create a Pivot Table and why you may want to use one in Excel. This course will go over Pivot Table basics and not so much on other aspects of Excel.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF MS EXCEL CHARTS
You know that MS Excel can create charts from your spreadsheet data; however do you know how to use chart templates, use chart tools, and change labels on your charts? If not, this overview of charts in Excel is for you. We will spend time on charts for this class and not as much on Excel spreadsheets. Class time will be given to go over different views of charts and how they change the look of Excel data.

FACEBOOK AND LINKEDIN BASICS
Everyone knows about Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media settings; however, do you know how to make sure that you have your information set up the best way possible? This informational class will go through how to set privacy settings on Facebook, and how to set up a LinkedIn profile as well. Good for those who have not already set up Facebook/LinkedIn pages as well as those who just want to gather more information on how to use these social sites.

INTRODUCTION TO PINTEREST AND JUST A PINCH – FUN INTERACTIVE SITES
Fun interactive sites that allow the user to learn, add, share, and create their own areas of interest. We will go through how to access these very easy to use sites as well as how to create and save individual areas of interest. Other “like” sites will also be looked at.

In addition to the five new courses, the Monroe Campus also will offer two summer school sections of the popular Custom Cards class and two marketing classes – Social Media Marketing and Marketing on a Shoestring Budget.
CUSTOM CARDS – THEME 1
Learn the beautiful and practical art of making custom cards by hand. Students will learn a variety of card making techniques, including simple fold cards, embellishments, layered paper and embossing. Each class will feature all new cards, including seasonal and/or special event themes. Students will need to bring a ruler, small sharp scissors, pencil, notebook, double-sided adhesive tape, and Fiskar cutter with orange blade (if you have one) to class. A project kit fee of $5.00 is available at the class for materials to make 4 cards during the one session.

Discover how to best reach your customers to communicate information, share sales promotions, solve customer questions, and generate sales through the use of social media tools. Join us in this fun seminar to gain the confidence to incorporate social media marketing into your business in a very practical way!

MARKETING ON A SHOESTRING BUDGET
Ever wonder how to get the most out of basic marketing without destroying your budget? This class explains marketing opportunities that won’t break the bank, so you can develop your own marketing plan. Some topics include: branding basics, free advertising opportunities, getting the most out of member associations, and using the right medium to reach your customer.
