Strong regional leadership will respond to closing of power plant

MADISON, Wis. March 13, 2013 – Leaders in Kewaunee County will be mapping economic development strategies, with assistance from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), to replace lost jobs and build economic activity from the planned closure of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Station.

WEDC is providing the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation a $50,000 Capacity Building grant to assist the county in developing economic development strategies in response to the power plant’s closure. A collaboration of local and regional stakeholders will develop a roadmap for redevelopment for the area in the coming years.

“The closure of the power plant is a significant hit to the local economy, but I’m confident the strong regional leadership will identify new opportunities for community and business redevelopment,” said Reed Hall, secretary and chief operating officer of WEDC.
