WBIA staff testifies at EPA Hearing in Washington on Renewable Fuel Standard

Joined by Wisconsin Corn Growers Ethanol industry says no to changes

Washington DC – WBIA Washington Director Erik Oksala joined Wisconsin corn growers Pete Raskovic and Randy Hughes as they testified against an EPA proposal to cut the number of gallons of ethanol blended with gasoline from the 14.4 billion gallons called for by law to about 13 billion.
The marathon hearing to lower the Renewable Fuel Standard is taking place at a suburban Washington, D.C. hotel is expected to draw hundreds of industry representatives submitting testimony for more than 12 hours.

“The support from Wisconsin’s farmers and business community has been great,” said WBIA Executive Director Joshua Morby. “It’s a little disappointing that we haven’t heard much from those who represent us in Washington.”

“The RFS was passed to move America forward. If we let the oil industry bully lawmakers Americans will use less renewable energy and more foreign oil to power our cars. We also jeopardize thousands of Wisconsin jobs and billions of dollars of economic development.”
The public comment period for this proposed change will run through late January, and a final rule could take months after that. For more information on how to submit testimony or to see examples of what others are saying visit the WBIA online.
