WEDC board to discuss state audit at Wednesday meeting

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. Board of Directors will meet tomorrow to discuss the results of an audit that found problems with transparency and accountability within the public-private corporation.

Gov. Scott Walker said, following a Tuesday press conference, that while he believes most of the issues brought up in the Legislative Audit Bureau report have already been addressed, the board should discuss the audit in-depth before moving forward.

“I think from the board’s standpoint, I and other board members would like to go through comprehensively, piece by piece, every provision in that audit, even before the audit committee, the finance committee or anyone else brings it up,” Walker said.

He indicated that decisions on WEDC’s budget, which is scheduled to be voted on by the Joint Finance Committee on Thursday, could be delayed as a result of the board’s discussion.

“How far we would push back is, I think, dependent on how much comes out of that meeting,” Walker added.

The meeting, which is being held in Waukesha, will only deal with the audit, according to the meeting agenda.
