MADISON – Wisconsin football coach Gary Andersen files a horse’s teeth, reaches into a cow’s stomach and coaches a dog on an underwater treadmill in a new installment of the Big Ten Network television program “Forward Motion.”

Andersen was the one being coached when he visited the UW Veterinary Care clinic recently. He worked his way through a variety of veterinary jobs for the nationally-broadcast segment, produced by UW-Madison for BTN and airing Wednesday, Oct. 2.

“I’m skittish around horses,” Andersen says in the segment. “Horses scare me. Horses, the ocean, clowns – those things all scare me,” he added with a laugh.

Viewers will see the coach face down his fears while learning everything from dog dentistry to the art of pumping rumen fluid from a cow’s stomach.

The half-hour program also highlights Badger women’s basketball coach Bobbie Kelsey as she tackles jobs at the Babcock Dairy Plant. Kelsey shovels cheese, battles a milk machine, and scoops up famous Babcock ice cream.

“Making cheese is like basketball,” Kelsey says in her segment. “It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes a lot of love and nurturing.”

“Forward Motion: Coaching the Coaches” will air Oct. 2 at 8:30 p.m. central time or immediately after the Badger volleyball game.
