MADISON – Two UW Health leaders have been recognized with Regent’s Awards from the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international professional society of more than 40,000 executives who lead hospitals, health care systems and other health care organizations.
Mark Hamilton of Fitchburg and Wendy Horton of Madison received their respective awards today in Pewaukee at the Wisconsin Hospital Association Leadership Summit.
Hamilton, vice president of ambulatory services for UW Health, received the ACHE Senior Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award. The honor recognizes ACHE members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of health care senior leadership excellence.
Hamilton, who joined UW Health in 1992, has coordinated program planning for UW Health at The American Center. He also played integral roles in the development of UW Health’s east, west and Research Park clinics and Wisconsin Dialysis, Inc. During his tenure at UW Health, the number of ambulatory-care visits has expanded nearly threefold to approximately 750,000 visits annually. In addition, Hamilton has held several leadership roles in ACHE both nationally and in the Wisconsin ACHE chapter. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and a master’s in public health from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Horton, the director of surgery for UW Health, received the ACHE Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award. With UW Health since 2005, Horton began in technology assessment and clinical pharmacy before moving to her current role in 2009. Under her leadership, the UW Health surgery department has hired 40 faculty, many from high-profile institutions; has grown nearly 30 percent in clinical volume; improved access and offered new courses in continuing medical education. Trained as a pharmacist, she previously served as a senior clinical pharmacist and the technology-assessment program manager for UW Health. Horton’s bachelor’s degree is from Oregon State University and she holds a doctoral degree in pharmacy from the University of Utah.
