Madison, Wis. — Dr. Patrick Remington, professor and associate dean for public health at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, has been named to a five-year term on the Community Preventive Service Task Force, an independent panel appointed by the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), whose members represent a broad range of research, practice, and policy expertise in public health.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services began the Task Force in 1996 to systematically review evidence for the effectiveness of interventions to confront long-standing public health problems such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and tobacco use, as well as emerging health issues such as violence and mental health.

The task force is charged with developing the CDC’s Guide to Community Preventive Services, a free collection of all the evidence-based recommendations and other findings of the Task Force (available at http://www.thecommunityguide.org).
