Transportation event tackles road funding, infrastructure improvements

WISCONSIN DELLS — Congressman Tom Petri suggests technology might provide an answer for future state and federal transportation funding.

The chair of the House highways subcommittee and an expert panel discussed those funding issues and other transportation topics at a WisPolitics.com event held May 2 in the Dells. The event was sponsored by the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association and the Wisconsin Counties Association.

The panel focused on a recent report from the Wisconsin Commission on Transportation Finance and Policy and the long-term health of the state transportation fund.

Panel participants were: state Reps. Keith Ripp and Penny Bernard Schaber; Craig Thompson, executive director of the Transportation Development Association; and Dave Cieslewicz, former mayor of Madison and adjunct professor in urban & regional planning and political science at UW-Madison.
