Chicago-based performer Rachel Barton Pine calls performing “a gift and a privilege.” Those who have witnessed Pine in concert may say it’s her performance that is a privilege to hear.

The renowned violinist will perform at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) Wednesday, October 30. The concert will be held at 7:30 pm in the Great Hall. The doors and the bar open at 6:30 pm.

“I’m there to communicate and tell a story with the violin as my voice,” Pine said. Pine has been performing since she was 4, appearing as soloist with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Baltimore, Montreal, Vienna, New Zealand and Iceland Symphonies, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Israel and Scottish Chamber Orchestras. She has never had stage fright.

She finds it rewarding to share experiences and a mutual appreciation for music with the audience. The power and intensity of classical music is the draw for Pine. These are qualities she sees in heavy metal music, another genre that she is also drawn toward. She performs both.

“It’s fun to let the audience enjoy music they are familiar with but it’s also fun to let them discover music that is unfamiliar,” Pine said. She will play a mix at THELMA.

One piece in her “must-play” repertoire is Franck’s Sonata. Rachel Barton Pine is a character in a Sherban Young novel released this year. She is honored to be a character in a book, Pine said. The book, “Fleeting Note,” features a detective who is a fan of the arts and a friend of Rachel Barton Pine. The Pine character provides insight to her friend and Franck’s Sonata has a pivotal place in the case.

Pine’s new album “Violin Lullabies” debuted at number one on Billboard’s Traditional Classical Albums chart and as number one on Amazon Best Selling Classical List. Her daughter, who just turned 2, is the inspiration for the album. “Violin Lullabies” will be available for sale at the concert.

Tickets are available at thelmaarts.org, by calling (920) 921-5410, or stopping in THELMA during business hours. Tickets are $40. However THELMA members receive 20% off all tickets. There are no tables for this performance.

THELMA is located in the heart of downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District at 51 Sheboygan St.
