Summit Credit Union: Awards four continuing education scholarships to area students

MADISON, Wis. – “The cooperative structure of a credit union not only ensures the right governance of the institution, but it helps to promote the financial well-being of both its members and the community.” “The cooperative nature of Summit and its steadfast belief in educating my generation on responsible saving provides me and thousands of others with a sturdy foundation for the future.”

These are just two excerpts from essays completed by students awarded with this year’s continuing-education tuition scholarships from Summit Credit Union. The financial awarded the four $1,500 scholarships at its annual membership meeting in April.

The Mary Siedlecki Honorarium Scholarship was awarded to:

· Hannah Craig of Mazomanie, Wis. Craig is home-schooled and takes some classes at MATC. She plans to attend Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio, in the fall and will major in performance and media arts.

The Volunteer Board of Directors Scholarships were awarded to:

· Zoe Elizabeth Apel of Stoughton, Wis. Zoe is a 2012 graduate of Stoughton High School and attends the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, majoring in elementary education.

· Erin Barry of Madison, Wis. Barry will graduate from Madison East High School in June 2013 and plans to attend Pomona College, Claremont, Cali., majoring in geology and economics.

· Sarah N. Gang from Deerfield, Wis. Gang will graduate from Deerfield High School in June 2013 and plans to attend University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, majoring in business and marketing.

Fifty-nine students applied for the scholarships this year. Recipients were chosen based on grade point averages, extracurricular and community activities, employment experience and an essay on how a credit union’s cooperative structure benefits its members and the communities it serves.

Over the past 12 years, Summit Credit Union has helped 36 area students pursue quality higher education. The Board of Director Scholarship program supports Summit’s ongoing educational outreach efforts and its commitment to the communities in which
it serves.

Applications for the 2014 Summit Credit Union Board of Directors Scholarships will be posted at www.summitcreditunion.com beginning January 2014.
