DE PERE, WIS: For the third year in a row, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) honored St. Norbert College as a leader among institutions of higher education for its commitment to bettering the community through community service and service-learning. St. Norbert was admitted to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with distinction for its strong institutional commitment to service and compelling campus-community partnerships that produce measurable results for the community. St. Norbert was the only college/university in the state to receive the honor with distinction.
The Corporation for National and Community Service, which has administered the Honor Roll since 2006, admitted a total of 690 colleges and universities for their impact on issues from literacy and neighborhood revitalization to supporting at-risk youth. Of that total, 113 received the recognition of Honor Roll with Distinction.
“This recognition highlights St. Norbert College’s commitment to the community and the common good, a central part of the college’s mission. It also recognizes the community partners and donors who support service-learning experiences for our students,” said Nancy Mathias, director of the college’s Sturzl Center for Community Service and Learning.
“In the past year, St. Norbert students provided over 36,000 hours of service in the local community, across the nation and the world. Through their service work, students mentored and tutored youth, helped build homes, worked with people experiencing homelessness and poverty, developed sustainable environmental practices, raised money for many good causes, and participated in a host of other projects,” Mathias added.
