DE PERE, WIS: An event celebrating student and faculty/staff collaborations at St. Norbert College will be held Tuesday, April 2, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the main level of Todd Wehr Hall. A reception and recognition ceremony for all participants and guests begins at 4 p.m. in the Hendrickson Dining Room of the F.K. Bemis International Center. During the reception, Kathy Licht, a 1992 graduate of St. Norbert and associate professor of earth sciences at Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis, will speak about collaborative research. Licht has been researching the Antarctic ice sheet and joined St. Norbert professor of geology Tim Flood on a research expedition there last January. “This celebration puts a spotlight on the extraordinary work our faculty and staff do in working on research projects and creative works collaboratively with our students,” said Jeffrey Frick, dean of the college and academic vice president. “These experiences are an important part of the transformative education we offer at St. Norbert College.”
John Pennington, professor of English and director of the St. Norbert Collaborative, adds: “Undergraduate research is a hallmark of the quality education at St. Norbert College. To celebrate undergraduate research is our public acknowledgment of this integral academic collaborative pursuit.”
“Celebrating Student and Faculty/Staff Collaborations” will feature 58 projects with 88 students and 43 faculty/staff taking part. Projects span the humanities and fine arts, natural sciences, social sciences, interdisciplinary work, student affairs and more. “We are celebrating the life of the mind at work across campus in labs, studios and other scholarly or creative settings,” said Linda Beane-Katner, director of faculty development at St. Norbert College.
The event is hosted by the office of the dean of the college, the office of faculty development, the office of college advancement and The St. Norbert Collaborative: The Center for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities. It is free and open to the public.
