St. Croix Economic Development Corporation: Hot housing market continues in St. Croix County

On October 21st, the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA) released information on member-assisted transactions for September 2013. Across the state, home sales were up 15.8% compared to September 2012. Median prices rose 6.7% compared to last September. Home sales in Wisconsin have been up for 27 straight months and median prices have consistently grown in all but one of the past 19 months.

Statewide, year-to-date sales (January through September) in 2013 were up 13.6% and the year-to-date median price on transactions was 7.8% higher compared to January–September of 2012.

In St. Croix County, there were 111 WRA assisted transactions in September compared to 116 in September 2012 (-4.3). The median sale price for transactions in St. Croix during September was estimated at $200,000, compared to $147,000 last September (+36.1% increase).

Sales for the first nine months of 2013 in St. Croix were up 14.5% compared to the same time period in 2012 (1,090 transactions v. 952). The January–September 2013 median price increased 22.4% compared to January–September 2012 ($174,950 v. $142,950).

WRA also reported on the Wisconsin Housing Affordability Index, which was measured at 222 in September, down from 257 a year ago.
