ELKHART LAKE, Wis., July 22, 2013 – The HAWK with Brian Redman concluded yesterday at Road America after three days of vintage racing action, exhibitions, concours awards and activities for fans. The event has been heralded as one of the largest vintage racing events in the country, and according to famed driver Brian Redman, it is “one of the top events of its kind in the world.”

Granted, that is a substantial claim coming from a man who has seemingly done it all in racing, including winning several times in the 1970’s, the Formula 5000 championship three consecutive times, the 12 Hours of Sebring twice and the Targa Florio.

“It’s the combination of the revered Road America circuit, a gorgeous backdrop with the village of Elkhart Lake for the Friday and Saturday Nationwide Insurance Concours d’Elegance, the beautiful mid-summer Wisconsin weather, as well as the enthusiastic crowds and tremendous entry of cars,” said Redman, who enjoyed in the revelry and camaraderie during the winner’s circle celebrations.

As Redman stated, the cars, mostly driven by gentlemen drivers who are undeniably passionate about their sport – were the main attraction. Of 450 entrants, several were Corvettes, which was this year’s featured marque. And unlike other events where spectators might be separated from stars who take the stage, crowds of car lovers milled through the paddock area, telling stories with owners and drivers and swapping insight with other enthusiasts. Next up at Road America:

August 1- 4 the Ferrari Club of America is returning to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin and Road America to celebrate its 50th Anniversary with the 2013 International Meet. The club will honor it heritage as the oldest recognized and, by magnitudes, the largest Ferrari club in the world with over 5,200 members from across all of Canada and the US.

One of the biggest racing events in Wisconsin returns August 8-11 as the Grand-Am Rolex Series and the American Le Mans series (ALMS) bring in some of the top racers in the world to tackle America’s National Park of Speed. Starting in 2014, the Grand-Am Rolex Series and American Le Mans Series merger will be complete to form United Sports Car Racing. While the two series won’t be racing together this year, the doubleheader weekend will be the first glimpse of the two series’ together on the same track, which is yet another reason to see it all up close and personal.
