Madison – A new broadband playbook has been released to the public at the direction of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s Playbook for Broadband Progress (Playbook) presents several “plays” that policy makers, citizens, economic development agencies, planners, and broadband providers can use to explore ways of enhancing broadband availability, adoption, and use throughout the state.

In a cover letter to the Playbook, the Commissioners said, “We urge collaborative efforts and the use of this Playbook as a guide to future efforts that will make Wisconsin a national leader in broadband policy and provisioning, and a beneficiary of broadband’ s promise for all segments of the state’s populace and economy.”

The Playbook was developed as a part of the overall planning process under a grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. Working with Commission staff and the Commission’s LinkWISCONSIN contractor, a Steering Committee made up of representatives from all nine Wisconsin regional broadband teams (comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds such as business, healthcare, education, state and local government, and regional planning) drafted this Playbook based on discussions, collaborations, and review of regional team efforts. The draft Playbook was also released for comment from the general public.

Broadband planning will take center stage at a symposium hosted by the Commission and its LinkWISCONSIN initiative on April 4-5, 2013, in Madison. A session to discuss the Playbook is included on the agenda. Anyone interested in attending should register here: http://1.usa.gov/XqibLC.
