(WEST BEND, WI) The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) presents Kelli Hoppmann: Of Geraniums and Self-Involved Wolves at MOWA On The Lake. The exhibition will be on view October 17, 2013 through January 8, 2014 and will be a part of the Milwaukee Gallery Night and Day on October 18 and 19.

Kelli Hoppmann creates allegorical paintings that are both captivating and haunting. Her images of fantastical characters amidst vibrant and intricate patterns suggest hidden meaning and a closer look reveals satire and social commentary layered within the beautiful imagery.

Hoppmann’s work is too conscious to categorize as surreal, but nonetheless dreamy and mesmerizing. Her oil paintings are like a stage that she creates for her characters to play out allegorical themes of love, lust, pathos, sin, and even contrition. Humans and animals become one as a reminder that our actions are often very primal. These paintings are sometimes disturbing, often funny, and always beautiful.

Kelli Hoppmann graduated with a B.S. in fine art from the University of Wisconsin and is a founding member of Artbite, an artist’s consortium. Her work has been shown at The Kohler Museum’s Artspace, The Museum of Wisconsin Art, The Wisconsin Academy, and is carried by The Artisan Gallery in Paoli Wisconsin. Kelli lives and works in Madison, Wisconsin, with her two children.
