Historic Milwaukee: Historic Milwaukee and Marquette students to develop a Spanish speaking tour

(MILWAUKEE, WI) – Historic Milwaukee, Inc. has partnered with Marquette University to develop tours in Spanish of Walker’s Point to reach out to the Spanish-speaking community towards the end of November. US Latino/a students studying with Dr. Eugenia Afinoguénova, Associate Professor of Spanish at Marquette University Department of Foreign Languages, are working on the project.

The program is aimed to engage everyone who speaks Spanish in Milwaukee as well as their guests, friends, and family in learning about the city’s history. There will be five pilot tours offered on Friday, November 15 at 5pm; Saturday, November 16 at 2pm; Sunday, November 17 at 2pm; Saturday, November 23 at 2pm; and Sunday, November 24 at 2pm. Tours will cover the history of Walker’s Point, its most representative buildings, and its impact on Milwaukee Latino/a communities. Admission to this event will be free for all who want to participate; the tour is estimated to last an hour to two hours. This is the first time the tours will be offered, and will continue to be offered in spring and summer 2014 or by request.
