Event expected to generate over $928,000 in visitor spending

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (Dec. 20, 2012) – The Marshfield Convention and Visitors Bureau is looking to set attendance records for the 2013 National Fur Takers Rendezvous, June 27-29 with the help of a $9,749 Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) grant. Presented by Department of Tourism Industry Relations and Services Director Sarah Klavas, this is the first time this event will be in Wisconsin and expected to host over 8,000 outdoor enthusiasts from around the nation and Canada. The event is expected to generate an economic impact of about $928,000 from visitor spending at area hotels, restaurants and stores.

“Marshfield expertly pairs small city charm with outstanding hospitality, which will ensure a fantastic experience for all those attending the FTA Rendezvous,” said Klavas. “And with thousands of acres of wildlife and outdoor recreation areas, travelers will experience firsthand the wonderful destination that is Marshfield and create a positive economic impact in the community.”

This three day, family oriented event will be held at Marshfield Fairgrounds Park. The National Fur Takers Association is the second largest gathering of fur trappers in the world. The FTA Rendezvous includes a trade show, hourly demonstrations on trapping, predator calling and educations seminars. All activities are open to the public. Goals are to increase attendance to also host the 2015 FTA Rendezvous. Grant funds are going towards advertising in niche publications to attract more attendees.

In fiscal 2012, the Department funded 50 Joint Effort Marketing projects, awarding a total of over $1.1 million dollars. Visitor expenditures driven by the marketing from these projects will exceed $29 million.

JEM grant funds are available to non-profit organizations for the promotion of Wisconsin tourism events and destinations. The state can fund up to 75 percent of a project’s first year advertising and marketing costs and provides support for second and third year projects, but with decreasing amounts for funding each year until projects become self-sustaining.
