Retirement Industry Veteran Will Oversee Company’s Credit Union and Small Business Units

MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Mutual Group has hired Paul Chong as senior vice president of Retirement Plan Services.

Chong will be responsible for leading the development of CUNA Mutual Group’s Retirement Plan Services business in both the credit union and small business markets. He will oversee the company’s teams in Madison, Wis., and at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants in Great Bend, Kan. He succeeds Kevin Thompson, who has returned to CUNA Mutual Group’s Legal Division as vice president-associate general counsel.

Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Chong served as executive director, head of institutional consulting and 401(k) at UBS, where he was directly responsible for UBS Wealth Management’s $100-plus billion Institutional Consulting and Corporate Retirement business. In addition, Chong served as executive vice president for business development at Prudential Retirement and president, Corporate Market Groups for CitiStreet. He also spent time as an entrepreneur and owned businesses in Florida.

“Paul brings more than 18 years of senior leadership experience in many segments of the retirement industry, with core expertise in sales and relationship management,” said Robert Trunzo, president, CUNA Mutual Group Insurance & Financial Services. “He has a proven track record of creating and executing successful growth strategies at leading financial institutions, and we are glad to have him on board. His expertise and keen understanding of how we can meet the retirement plan needs of small business owners across the country will be a great asset to our retirement growth strategy.”

Chong said he is excited to lead the company’s Retirement Services business. “I’m eager to extend CUNA Mutual Group’s unique heritage and focus of serving customers in the retirement marketplace. Outcome-based programs and services for the rank and file are in the DNA of the company, and I look forward to significantly expanding the number of plans and participants we serve,” he said.
