MILWAUKEE (2/4/2013) – Parents magazine today revealed the exclusive findings from its 10 Best Children’s Hospitals survey, ranking Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee No. 4 in the nation. In addition, six specialty programs were ranked in the top 10, including preemie and newborn care No. 1, emergency care No. 3, orthopedic care No. 6, heart care No. 7, pulmonary care No. 8 and cancer care No. 9. Parents surveyed 66 children’s hospitals to determine where the more than 3 million children hospitalized each year can get the best care possible. The results of the extensive report appear in the March 2013 issue of Parents magazine available online at parents.com/best-hospital-2013.

“We’re the only children’s hospital in Wisconsin with the depth and breadth of services required to make the list,” said Peggy Troy, MSN, RN, president and CEO of Children’s Hospital and Health System. “We provide the safest, most comprehensive care for children of all ages, no matter how simple or complex the illness or injury.”

“Children’s Hospital offers some of the top experts in their specialties, and families travel from all parts of the state and across the country to receive treatment,” said Marc Gorelick, MD, CEO, Children’s Specialty Group, and professor of Pediatrics (Emergency Medicine), the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Medical College of Wisconsin is the academic medical institution affiliated with Children’s Hospital.

The Parents survey is a comprehensive, family-focused and data-driven comparison of pediatric hospitals. It focuses on features doctors and parents say matter to them most:

* Groundbreaking research and treatment options
*Survival rates for pediatric cancer, heart disease and other critical conditions
*Experience performing complex procedures
*Expertise of physicians, nurses and other staff
*Safeguards to prevent medical errors, including an electronic medical record
*Family-friendly facilities
*Services that address the emotional needs of patients and families
*Community outreach that helps keep kids safe, healthy and out of the hospital.
