Company awarded 2012 Emergency Assistance Award by Edison Electric Institute

Madison, Wis. – January 10, 2013 – The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) presented Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT) with a 2012 Emergency Assistance Award at a ceremony in Phoenix, Ariz. this morning during the EEI Winter Board and Chief Executives Meeting. The award recognizes the company’s support of Superstorm Sandy recovery and the assistance Alliant Energy provided to other utilities in their electric and gas service restoration efforts.

Alliant Energy sent 215 staff, 100 from Wisconsin, to New York. This group consisted of line workers, gas technicians, fleet maintenance, safety, and management. Their goal was to restore power and ensure the safety of gas service. For two weeks straight, employees averaged 16-hour days.

“The damage caused by Superstorm Sandy was unprecedented, and so was the response from our staff and our state. We’re proud to have helped out in one of the largest restoration efforts our industry has ever seen,” said Patricia Kampling, Alliant Energy Chairman, President and CEO. “We know we made many allies if we ever need help back home, especially with Central Hudson Gas and Electric, who nominated us for this award.”

EEI’s Emergency Response Awards recognize member companies that put forth outstanding efforts to restore service promptly to the public following a storm or natural disaster. The awards are announced in two categories: Emergency Recovery Award (for companies directly impacted) and Emergency Assistance Award (for companies that come to the aid of another company). Alliant Energy previously won the Emergency Recovery Award in 2007 for recovery from a large ice storm and in 2008 for recovery from extensive flooding.
