Xcel Energy: Community Conservation Program helps customers increase energy efficiency

2012 program moves outside city of La Crosse to La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon and Crawford counties

EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – Even small changes can make a significant difference when it comes to energy efficiency. Big and small improvement areas are just some of what residents learn about during an energy assessment through Xcel Energy’s Community Conservation Program. The program, which most recently was offered in the city of La Crosse and Trempealeau, Buffalo, Sawyer and Price counties, is moving to a new area.

Xcel Energy residential customers in La Crosse County, outside La Crosse city limits, as well as Monroe, Vernon and Crawford counties are encouraged to participate in the company’s Community Conservation Program that will help them learn how to increase their home’s energy efficiency and save money on their energy bill.

Xcel Energy in partnership with Focus on Energy will provide Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Assessments to residential customers in the target areas for only $45 (a $350 value) through Dec. 31, 2012. An energy consultant from Focus on Energy will complete a thorough evaluation of the home and make recommendations for energy-efficient improvements. As part of the program, eligible residential customers can receive incentives from Xcel Energy and Focus on Energy toward the cost of implementing energy-saving projects.

Xcel Energy’s Community Conservation Program has grown substantially over the years, said Lori Drilling, project coordinator. “Everyone, from the government to your next door neighbor, is more conscious of energy use,” Drilling said. “Even small changes can make a big difference.”

The program runs on a two-year cycle, so customers who get an assessment this year and have until the end of 2013 to complete their energy improvement projects and apply for incentives.

Since 2003, the program has awarded nearly $1.4 million to Xcel Energy customers for making energy-efficient improvements.

In addition to the residential program, Xcel Energy is again offering free energy audits to small business customers in all of La CrosseCounty, as well as Monroe, Vernon, Crawford, Buffalo, Trempealeau, Dunn, Price and Sawyer counties. These small business customers can receive a free energy audit and incentives for installing equipment that will reduce energy use at their facilities.

To schedule a residential energy assessment or a small business energy audit, Xcel Energy customers in the 2012 targeted areas should call 800-762-7077 and mention the Xcel Energy Community Conservation Program.
