MADISON – Andrew “Drew” Petersen of Verona has been appointed to the Wisconsin Technical College (WTCS) Board as a public member. Petersen, vice president of external affairs and corporate communications for TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS), will serve a six-year term.

Petersen received a bachelor degree from Ripon College and a Master of Business Administration from University of Wisconsin – Madison. Prior to joining TDS in 1997, he was executive director of the Wisconsin Office of Federal State Relations in Washington, DC. He serves as trustee/vice president for the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Organization of Dane County and is a board member of the United Way Vision Council.

“I’m very pleased to be part of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board at a critical time in our state’s history. Never in our lifetimes have the colleges been more important to developing a skilled workforce, so to be part of shaping the direction of the System is an exciting opportunity,” Petersen said.

The 13-member WTCS Board establishes statewide policies and standards for educational programs and services provided by the 16 technical college districts. The Board also administers state and federal aids to the colleges.

Wisconsin’s Technical Colleges offer more than 300 programs, awarding two-year associate degrees, one- and two-year technical diplomas and short-term technical diplomas. In addition, the System is the major provider of customized training and technical assistance to Wisconsin’s business and industry. More than half of all adults in Wisconsin have accessed the technical colleges for education and training. The technical colleges have been making futures for 100 years.
