Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association Offers Free Recipe Tearpads

Antigo, WI — January 10, 2012 — Whether people winter in Wisconsin or Florida, they appreciate a healthy, hearty potato soup or stew — quintessential winter comfort foods. And the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA) has three winning Warm Up in Winter with Wisconsin Potatoes recipes to share.

Josie Shapiro of San Francisco, California won first prize, and a $150 gift card to the grocery store of her choice, for her Poblano Pepper and Potato Soup with Bacon recipe. This combination of Wisconsin russet potatoes, poblano peppers, cumin, paprika, chili powder and beer is certain to warm you from head to foot. Better yet, the recipe takes about 30 minutes to make. You can even watch us prepare Josie’s Poblano Pepper and Potato Soup by viewing this video.

Shake off winter’s chill with Mya Zeronis’ Spicy Moroccan Lamb Potato Tagine. This recipe comes to us from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and features Wisconsin yellow flesh potatoes, lamb, saffron, red pepper, lemon and a combination of cumin, coriander, paprika and cilantro. Mya earned a $100 gift card to her favorite grocery store for tasty tagine.

Bethany Sobek of Rochester, Minnesota took third place — and a $50 grocery store gift card — for her scrumptious Scalloped Potato Stew. This recipe is a new twist on the standard scalloped potatoes and can be left to simmer in a crock pot while you’re snowboarding, snowshoeing or skating.

Grocers can download free recipe tear pads of the first place Warm Up with Wisconsin Potatoes Recipe. The WPVGA website offers a diverse selection of free Point-of-Purchase on its industry website http://www.wisconsinpotatoes.com.

The third Win with Wisconsin Potatoes recipe contest launches February 27, 2012 with winners chosen in March 2012.
