Wisconsin Mining Association calls for prompt action on mining bill
[MILWAUKEE] Labor Trades organizations — including the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 139; the Iron Workers District Council of the North Central States; Wisconsin Pipe Trades Association and its Affiliated Labor Unions; North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters; and the Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council — along with Gogebic Taconite LLC will hold a news conference to announce a significant labor agreement concerning the proposed iron ore mine in Iron and Ashland Counties.
The organizations, along with the Wisconsin Mining Association, will also call on legislators to promptly pass Assembly Bill 426 (AB 426), which will regulate permitting and operations of iron mining in Wisconsin. AB 426 provides a reasonable regulatory framework, protects the environment and helps to protect and create jobs in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Mining Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) foundation whose goals include enhancing public awareness of, and appreciation for, the important role mining has played in Wisconsin’s past; the critical role it plays in Wisconsin’s current economic stability; and the massive potential it holds for creating good jobs and re-energizing the state’s economy in years to come.
