State business, academic and scientific leaders will join Dr. Nick Turkal, president and chief executive officer of Aurora Health Care, and Lee Swindall, vice president of business and industry development for Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., to share insights on emerging technologies with attendees of the Fifth Annual Wisconsin Science & Technology Symposium.

The event will be held July 23 and 24 at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County and Marshfield Clinic.

The event will bring together science and technology researchers, health care leaders and representatives from the public sector and industry to share ideas and spark new collaborations. The symposium also will showcase cutting-edge research from the University of Wisconsin System, Marshfield Clinic, Aurora Health Care, BayCare Clinic and businesses involved in biofuel production, fuel cell development, medical devices, nanotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Additional highlights include a workshop on digital health care tools as well as presentations by Wisconsin companies developing innovative products with UW campuses. The symposium offers an opportunity for companies to learn more about advancing technology through participation in innovative research programs with UW faculty.

News organizations are invited to cover the symposium including a session set for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, featuring remarks by UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Ray Cross, Turkal and Swindall. The session also will include an awards ceremony honoring the first Wisconsin Medical Entrepreneurship Foundation Innovation Scholars. In other events, Dr. Brian Ewert, president of Marshfield Clinic, will deliver opening remarks at a reception Monday, July 23 at 5 p.m.; Dr. Paul Summerside, chief medical officer of BayCare Clinic, will provide closing comments at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24.
