WEDC: Gov. Walker announces Community Development Block Grant for Baldwin, Platteville and South Wayne

MADISON, March 1, 2012 – Governor Scott Walker today announced Community Development Block Grant awards from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to three Wisconsin communities.

The City of Baldwin will receive a $494,600 Community Development Block Grant for Public Facilities to help finance improvements within the downtown Main Street area. The grant will help replace utilities that have exceeded their useful life and improve the aesthetic appearance to boost economic development in the downtown.

The City of Platteville will receive a $215,000 Community Development Block Grant for Public Facilities to help finance downtown improvements. The grant will help finance infrastructure improvements such as sidewalk and sanitary sewer repairs, and overall appearance of the two block historic downtown area.

The Village of South Wayne will receive a $276,000 Community Development Block Grant for Public Facilities to help finance improvements in the village’s sanitary sewer system. The grant will help finance rehabilitation of the existing well, sanitary sewer modification and installation of monitoring well pump and equipment.

The Community Development Block Grant program is a versatile financing tool for general-purpose local units of government in need of funds to undertake needed infrastructure and public building projects. The program is designed to enhance the vitality of a community by undertaking public investment that contributes to its overall community and economic development.
