UW-Stevens Point: Undergraduate research to be showcased at UW-Stevens Point

Collaborative research between students and faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will be showcased at the 13th annual College of Letters and Science Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The symposium, free and open to the public, will be held Friday, April 27, on the first and second floors of the Science Building from 2–5 p.m. More than 100 research posters and presentations from students representing 12 departments within the college will be featured. Research subjects include analyzing rainbow trout growth patterns in the natural sciences, positive psychology in social sciences and exploring new educational models in the humanities.

“By bringing students into our own research, or entering into a new research project with students, we can foster a healthy intellectual community and unify the teaching and research aspects of our professional lives in a way that is very fulfilling,” said Dona Warren, assistant dean for Current and Student Affairs and chair of the Symposium Committee.

The students benefit greatly even after the symposium has passed, she added. “After the event, they can continue their research and use their participation in the symposium as evidence of their intellectual maturity, problem-solving abilities and work ethic, qualities highly prized by employers and graduate schools.”
