UW-Madison: Finalists announced for Dean of School of Human Ecology

MADISON – The University of Wisconsin-Madison has selected three finalists in its search for dean of the School of Human Ecology.

Faculty, academic staff, students, a dean and a member of the school’s board of visitors comprised a 14-member search-and-screen committee that made its recommendations to Interim Chancellor David Ward and Provost Paul M. DeLuca Jr.

The finalists are:

– Jeanne M. Hogarth, manager, consumer research at the Division of Consumer & Community Affairs, Federal Reserve Board, in Washington, D.C. Hogarth has been in her current position since 1995 and has initiated consumer testing and survey programs, served as a U.S. representative to international consumer financial protection and consumer financial education bodies, served on the International Forum for Financial Consumer Protection and Education as well as on advisory boards and expert panels for a variety of consumer financial protection and financial education initiatives. Prior to joining the board, she taught high school in Ohio and was an associate professor in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University.

She has a Ph.D. and M.S. in family and consumer economics from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and a B.S. in education from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

– Laurie Kramer, associate dean, academic programs, College of Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Kramer is a professor of applied family studies in the Department of Human and Community Development. Her experience includes serving as the co-director for the Illinois Rural Families Program and was founding director of both the Family Resiliency Center and Pampered Chef Family Resiliency Program at the University of Illinois.

She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, majoring in clinical/community psychology, her M.A. from Long Island University in general experimental psychology and B.A. from State University of New York at Stony Brook in psychology.

– Soyeon Shim, director of the Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences and associate dean, strategic initiatives, for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Shim has been a University of Arizona faculty member since 1990 and has academic expertise in consumer decision-making, behavioral and consumer psychology, consumer financial behavior and global retailing and management.

She holds a Ph.D. in human ecology from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a M.S. and B.S. in human ecology from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.

The finalists will visit campus to meet with campus faculty, staff, students, administrators, governance and other groups. Their visits will include presentations open to the entire campus community. More information will become available once the visits are scheduled.
